What You Should Look For When

Choosing Your Sports Therapist

If you're looking to have a sports massage for the first time, the session will be quite different to a Swedish or beauty type massage.

Before treating your presenting problem your sports therapist, will ask about you as a person, what job you do, what hobbies you have, are you active or non active.

Understanding your lifestyle is usually a big clue to finding a solution to the presenting problem for you. All treatments will be “tailored to you” much as you would expect from a physiotherapist or osteopath to do.

You will also be advised if you require more than one session.

Sports Massage After-care

Zöe feels that  aftercare is equally important as the actual massage therapy session itself, as often there is a simple fix - a stretch that you can do daily to address a weakness.

She says,  "I get a good understanding of what has potentially caused your symptoms during the sports massage session, and often a yoga stretch is the solution".

For example, if you sit at a desk all day, you will need a counter pose to stretch out the muscles. A counterpose is a term used in yoga, and it is a posture that helps neutralise the body after a particular pose.
